ALGONQUIN AREA PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT

The Algonquin Area Public Library District seeks dynamic, outgoing library director with strong people and team management skills to provide strategic vision and leadership. The director will work with an excellent staff and a strong, effective board in a successful cooperative environment. The library has a new 35,000 sq. ft. main library and 16,000 sq. ft. remodeled branch. This year, the Library became a “Hennen’s Top Ten Library.” There is a strong and supportive Friends of the Library. The new director will come into an excellent situation with all the elements in place to move forward.

The Algonquin Area Public Library District, located 42 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, serves a population of over 39,000 in Algonquin and Lake-in-the-Hills, Illinois. The staff consists of 81 employees (54 FTEs), and the budget exceeds $5,000,000. The collection contains over 189,000 items. The library is known for its innovation as well as superior customer service.

Minimum Qualifications : MLS from an ALA-accredited library education program, plus 7 to 10 years professional public library experience with demonstrated management ability in administration, budgeting, planning, fundraising, and supervision. The successful candidate will have a strong philosophy of customer service, the ability to attract and maintain a talented staff, and embrace the library’s values, including an atmosphere which encourages openness, trust, cooperation and participation.

Salary: Minimum $90,000, depending on qualifications.
