DIRECTOR
The Ela Public Library District in Lake Zurich, Illinois, seeks a progressive thinker: a library director with the skills to provide the vision and leadership to implement cutting-edge services and technologies. We are looking for a leader who excels at building partnerships, empowering staff, and collaborating with other area agencies in a politically savvy environment.
Ela Public Library District is located 38 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. Our collection includes over 212,800 items, with an annual circulation of over 1,076,000 . The staff consists of 103 employees (60 FTEs), and the library’s annual revenues exceed $5,000,000. Ela serves 35,000 well educated residents of Lake Zurich, Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer, North Barrington, Long Grove, Echo Lake and Forest Lake.
This 24/7 community resource is on the forefront of a transformation from a traditional library setting to a cultural and community hub offering new and innovative library services and technology. It has been an early and aggressive adaptor of patron-centric technology and a leader in electronic resources and social media. We are currently developing a digital media lab for patron use. The stellar staff has provided robust programming for patrons of all ages and has progressively implemented the retail-based promotion of programs and services. Ela is a vibrant community partner and is recognized as such. There has been sound financial stewardship, and the library has a strong balance sheet that allows for new projects along with investment in new resources and technologies.
Minimum Qualifications : MLS from an ALA-accredited library education program plus at least five years of professional public library experience. The successful candidate must have demonstrated management ability in administration, budgeting, planning, fundraising, and supervision. Must have a strong philosophy of customer service; the ability to attract and mentor talented staff; and the willingness to embrace the library’s values, which include innovation, trust, staff participation, and team management.
Salary: Minimum $105,000, depending on qualifications.
