The Vernon Area Public Library District, located in Lincolnshire, Illinois, has an extraordinary opportunity for a library director who excels in leadership and can mentor and empower staff to become leaders; a dynamic, outgoing, and creative individual with demonstrated ability in team building and communication—someone who appreciates the traditional values of public libraries, but can also implement new and exciting services and technology. Lincolnshire is located 33 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. The Library occupies 50,000square feet with over 268,000 volumes and a staff of 81 FTEs. The Library is an independent taxing body, very fiscally sound with a current operating budget of $7,051,092. Minimum Qualifications : MLS from an ALA-accredited library education program plus
10 years professional public library experience with demonstrated management ability in administration, budgeting, planning, and supervision. Strong fiscal management skills and the ability to be a presence in the community. Able to create a learning culture with strong support for staff development. Excellent public relations skills and the ability to work effectively with local governments and other community agencies and organizations
